Forward markets are key enablers of a secure, affordable, and decarbonised supply of electricity. As we gradually come out of 5 years of upheavals in energy supply and demand, the upcoming review of the Forward Capacity Allocation (FCA) Guideline comes at the perfect time to assess the value – and need to finetune – our forward electricity markets. With this in mind, we call on the European Commission to focus on preserving liquidity in existing hubs and improving the design of zone-to-zone transmission rights to facilitate hedging on the efficient natural hubs that exist today.
