In its Action Plan for Affordable Energy, the European Commission recently presented eight policy actions aimed at “unlocking the true value of our Energy Union to secure affordable, efficient and clean energy for all Europeans”. Optimising the European energy system by connecting Europe’s vast natural and technological resources across national borders has an immense potential for cost savings. Considering Europe’s declining competitiveness and shifting geopolitics, there is a clear risk that “the cost of inaction is higher than the cost of action”.
In this context, Energy Traders Europe is organising a policy debate to discuss:
- Which actions proposed in the Action Plan for Affordable Energy should be prioritised to maximise the benefits of the Energy Union and make energy more affordable?
- Can the announced actions adequately lead to a step change in market integration?
- What further actions could the EU take?
