Electricity Market

Since the advent of European electricity markets in 1996, energy traders play a vital part in bringing supply and demand together for electricity in a competitive environment. We deal with the relevant issues related to electricity market functioning and design.

Efficient and well-functioning electricity markets are key for all three aspects of the energy triangle, because they:

  • Enhance security of supply by signaling where and when resources are required and allocating them efficiently.
  • Support competitiveness by putting downward pressure on prices.
  • Support decarbonisation by providing strong incentives to innovate and signaling the value of investments in certain technologies.

As well as considering issues at the European level, we believe one of our strengths is that we are also active in national and regional markets. At the moment we are covering countries and regions such as France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland, Iberia and Central and South Eastern Europe.
